Review: 5/5 stars

I had been wanting to submerse myself in the world of Tolkien for years. Admittedly, it was daunting at first - I knew little beyond the films, but mostly that this world was one of runes, languages, magical creatures in magical lands, and many many books.

As the cover says, The Hobbit is the 'enchanting prelude to the Lord of The Rings'. There's something so endearing about Tolkien's use of language, and his choice of form - the novel structures itself so that each chapter introduces a new character (a new creature) to its readers. Meeting them through the eyes of Bilbo Baggins brought great humour and joy to the experience - I absolutely loved Bilbo's inner dialogues and watching him grow throughout his adventure.

Some quotes I like:

'"Good heavens! he has gone like Bombur," they said. "Don't tell us about dreams. Dream-dinners aren't any good, and we can't share them."
